Description
The Acoustic Five consists of a saxophone, violin, guitar (or cello), piano, and double bass. It is an acoustic jazz quintet that performs extremely lyrical and sophisticated chamber music. A fascinating and singular musical journey, which despite its “chamber” instrumentation and the absence of drums, is deeply inscribed in the vocabulary of jazz, where interaction and swing are omnipresent. Saxophonist Franck Wolf has composed a large part of the repertoire especially for this acoustic quintet (with the exception of one or two old compositions completely rearranged for the occasion), where the saxophone (soprano or tenor) and the piano maliciously rub shoulders with a string trio composed of a violin, a guitar, and a double bass, and where on some tracks the cello replaces the guitar for a more “chamber” musical approach. A record which marks an important step in the brilliant career of the composer, leader, and saxophonist from Strasbourg Franck Wolf, whom the general public discovered with Biréli Lagrène (whom he has regularly accompanied for 16 years) and who, as a leader, has always liked taking risks and atypical projects (Triophone, straSax, the duet with the koto player Mieko Miyazaki…).
